spray basting

Do you have one of these?.........

I have 4 days to reorganize the storage areas in my basement.  I worked most of the day down there yesterday.  Do you have one of these panels?  Click on it to enlarge it if you want to read it easier.  It says 1983 Daisy Kingdom on it.  It is still just a panel not made into anything after all of these years.

A few days ago I found eight more fabrics for the current purple quilt.  Yesterday I found 4 more so I can make 24 more blocks now for a total of 72 blocks.  Now I just need to press out the fold lines and cut the 10" squares.

One of the boxes I went through has my  corduroy yardage.  One of these is 3.5 yards, one 4 yards and one 5 yards.  I'm planning on using these as quilt backs.
There are several more pieces of smaller yardage in the box.

Here are two 60" wide pieces of corduroy, two yards of each.  I'm glad I finally opened the box and went through it.  I knew I had some that was 60" wide but didn't know how much.  There is one more pale yellow print that is about 1 3/4 yards.

I have 2 and a half quilt backs pieced so I hope to load one quilt today and quilt it.

Which way is up and other things............

I need to decide which way is up on this colorwash because I want the last seams to be vertical.  I did change about 12 pieces since I showed this yesterday and then I changed one more piece after I took the photos.

This is it rotated one turn to the left.

This is one more turn to the left.  I want to have the blue at the top so these are the only 2 positions to consider.

I have 2 small boxes of squares I need to sort and then fill in on the trays.  That will take me at least 3 hours, maybe longer.

I put my black, gray and white batiks into an order that would work for Trip Around the World.  If I decide to do that I will cut up more of the fabric in some other shape too as long as I will have the creases pressed out of all of the fabrics.  I usually cut for 2 quilts at a time from any fabric group I choose.  I sold a Trip Around the World quilt top and gave a finished TAW to my cousin so I have permission to make another one.

One more basted...

I had one more top I wanted to spray baste before I take the newspaper mask off the design wall.  This is the one labeled my second favorite on my right side bar.  I hope it is still a favorite after I quilt it.  My plan is to have a couple rows of stitching in each of those tiny pieces in matching rayon embroidery thread.  I will ditch quilt it along several of the seams to stabilize it first.

I decided to leave the edge on the Journal Quilt I posted last night.  I figure I have 52 chances to find an edge finish I like best if I make a Journal Quilt every week in 2011.

Finally some progress

I saw a video about spray basting up on a wall so I tried it with my 3 'crooked cobblestone' quilts.  I can see that I need to put a lot more pins in the backing so it doesn't wrinkle while I'm smoothing out the batting and then the top.
Then I went straight to the machine and ditch quilted the vertical seams between the columns, and on 2 of them, ditch quilted where the border is sewn on.  Now the big decision is how much more quilting and what colors of thread.

Someone asked a couple days ago where to buy builder's Styrofoam sheets.  I bought mine at our local lumberyard which has gone out of business, but I think you can find them at Lowe's, Menard's, Home Depot, or whatever home building supply company you have in your area.  The sheets are 4' x 8' and come in a lot of different thicknesses.  Since mine are freestanding and movable I went with the 1" thick.  If you are mounting them on the wall you may want thinner.

I am answering the question here because the person who asked has no way for me to contact them.  IF you have a Google Account, even if you don't have a blog, would you PLEASE enable your email address so us bloggers can answer your questions?  Go to the Dashboard page, click on Edit Profile, put a check mark in front of Show my Email Address and then scroll down and SAVE.  For those of you without a Google Account, I have an email link on my right side bar and another email link on my profile page.  If you really want an answer, please use one of them.
