Dreaming about a new project.........

I had a lot of computer work to do yesterday so I didn't do any sewing.  I did look at this pattern that I purchased last year and I might start cutting for it.  I like the black and white with reds and pinks the best.  Mine will have more rows than that photo though.  I also want to do some more cutting of Kaffe 2.5" squares to finish up the project I started many months ago.  I'm like a lot of other people, lots of ideas and not enough time to work on all of them.

My new online store........

If you are not a subscriber to my new website you now have access to my new store.  It is a pop up store and will be open for 2 weeks (until October 25th).

Thank you so much to all who have made purchases and those who have sent positive comments and emails!

If you are not on the mailing list and want early access for future offerings, sign up here.  There is also a sign up form on the right side bar.

Still working..........

I finished cleaning the basement because the art quilters are coming today.  I haven't seen them since the Monday before my pacemaker surgery, 6 weeks ago.

We are still measuring quilts, stacking them when all of the stats are entered in the new online store.  We're still hoping for a mid-week opening.

I'm going to add this notice to the bottom of every post for a few days.  I realize that cellphone readers don't see my sidebar unless they click on "view web version" so they would miss the opportunity to sign up.

Take a look at the new sign up form on the right side bar of my blog (or click on the link).  I'll be opening a new online store soon and will be offering quilts, quilt tops, fabric kits and more.  I'd love for you to be first in line when the store opens.

Details, photography..........

My daughter and I have spent hours measuring, photographing, writing descriptions, etc.  This pile is waiting to be photographed.  She is setting up the new website because I don't have a clue how to do that.

I'm going back over all of the quilts and taking detail shots and making sure there are labels on most things.  I don't usually label baby quilts or table runners.

A few more days and we hope we are ready to show it to all of you.

My past few days..........

I was totally blindsided by the events of the past few days.  I ended up getting a pacemaker put in.  This is the same person who walked 55 minutes mowing grass 2 weeks ago with a push mower.  I was going downhill fast since last Saturday and this is why I couldn't get any quilt finishes in the last few days of last month.

I won't be answering any comments but do enjoy reading them.  Thanks for those who sent good wishes the last 2 days either silently, through comments or emails.

I will do a couple more look-back posts in the next couple days.

Sunday morning.........

I didn't take any photos yesterday so I'll just share another one that my daughter took when she was here at Easter.  I have been busy cleaning the basement, baking cookies, and watering plants so nothing new here.  The art quilters are coming tomorrow and it is going to be hot.  The humidity hasn't been too bad yet but they say it is going to be the next 4 days.

Happy Mother's Day...........

This new glass mixing bowl is one of my Mother's day gifts.  My KitchenAid is old, probably from the 1980s but it still works great.  I was never sure whether any of the accessories for it would fit mine since so many other models have come out.  I have the stainless steel bowl that came with it but this one has a pouring spout which might be handy for cake batter.

My other gift is an assortment of Pampered Chef products and I'll take a photo later today.  I don't spend a lot of time in the kitchen but when I do I like to have efficient tools that make cooking easier.
When I got home from our family dinner I spent some time in the back yard.  I cut some dead parts of the black raspberry bushes, cut volunteer trees and dug out lilies from an area that doesn't get enough sunshine.  It will give more space for the hostas to spread out.  The Lungwort/Pulmonaria is still blooming.  I love the spotted leaves.

My granddaughter's first quilt........

When my youngest granddaughter was about 9 she showed a lot of interest in sewing so I bought her a sewing machine.  She did a little sewing now and then over the next 11 years but now she is really interested in it.  We cut the 10" squares for her quilt a week ago and then Monday late afternoon she came over and pieced the top.  She got that done so quickly that we went right on to the quilting.
She had purchased fleece for the back and I had never used that before for a backing.  We decided on organic vertical lines on the quilt and she used my longarm for the very first time.

She finished it about 10:30....6 hours from start to finish.  It is for her boyfriend.  I am so proud of her for doing a good job on it and for sticking with it in such a long sewing session.  It is about 58" x 90".

Refinished desk........

Two friends refinished my Larkin desk for me.  This has been in my life since I was a child.  My mother had painted it at one point and I thought I would refinish it.  After it sat in the garage for 10 years I realized I wasn't going to do it myself.  My bookcase that got moved to the studio used to sit in this spot.  You can see the dents in the carpet from it.

We finally had a sunny day yesterday so I could take a photo.  I'm probably changing out the books on the bottom shelf to smaller ones like I have on the top shelf.
It is a lot richer looking than the photo shows.  I love the inside of it.

Larkin desks were given in exchange for premium certificates from the Larkin soap company.  My grandparents were married in 1910 and in a search I found a scan of a 1908 catalog page with 2 desks pictured that are similar to ones we had.  My daughter has the other one.
Sometimes this trim on the front of the desk is damaged but mine is in great shape.

I loaded a quilt on my longarm yesterday and also cut the second purple quilt which I won't start sewing until January.  I have decided there will be a third purple quilt with green added so I can use the first fabric shown on this post.
