I spent some time yesterday pulling backing fabrics and cutting batting pieces. I have no excuse now for not finishing them.
When these plant first came up along the sidewalk I thought they were volunteer asters. Now though I can see they are butterfly weed. I showed the flower starting to open last year here in the fourth photo. I need to dig them all out because they are too tall to be next to the sidewalk. I might pot some in case someone in my area would like one or two. After pulling weeds in the back yard, I came to the front to water my pots. As I made my way to the hose I saw that the first evening primrose is blooming.
The red Penstemon, also known as Husker Red Beardtounge, is also just starting to bloom. I have volunteers of it in places that are hard to dig them out of, like right between my goldflame spirea bush and the sidewalk.
